 Editor's Review
Whilst being part of the geographic region of Central America, Honduras is also the southernmost part of the North American continental landmass. With faultless palm-fringed beaches lapped by crystal clear waters and intriguing Mayan ruins set amongst dense jungle, Honduras offers an exciting holiday destination for both sun worshippers and adventure seekers alike. Still relatively undiscovered, this former Spanish colony suffers from both meteorological (remember Hurricane Mitch?) and political unrest, but is a hidden gem for those willing to take a chance on somewhere so relatively unknown.

Probably the most visited area is the offshore Bay Islands which include Roatán, Guanaja and Útila. Roatan has become a popular destination both for scuba divers exploring the nearby barrier reef and Caribbean cruise ships bringing throngs of eager shoppers and sightseers..

On the south east corner of the Honduran mainland is part of the Mosquito Coast area that runs down into Nicaragua. Probably most famous for the Paul Theroux book and subsequent film the Mosquito Coast is now a popular destination for eco tourists attracted by the abundance of diverse flora & fauna.
