 Editor's Review
The long narrow shape not only provides the island’s name (“eel”) but gives a coastline of mile after mile of glorious soft-sand beaches – Road Bay, Rendezvous Bay, Shoal Bay (brilliant for surf) and the aptly named Sandy Ground. We’d say ‘endless’ but that would detract from one of Anguilla’s main attractions – at only 40 square miles total area, this is the smaller, quieter, more relaxed version of the Caribbean. No big booming nightspots but some of the loveliest waterside eateries you could envisage (and a minimal crime rate as a bonus). The sea is a veritable jewel-box of colour – turquoise, aquamarine, emerald – where you can sail, surf or take trips to even smaller off-shore islands. Or, boldly venture on to the ‘interesting’ island roads by scooter or hire car (around $30 a day) to find your very own bay.
