 Editor's Review
For such a small country, Andorra manages to have a remarkably rich and varied past and present. Now a Principality, its original charter was granted by Charlemagne and the historic influences from the rest of Europe led to a polyglot community with Catalan being one of many languages spoken. Tucked into the Eastern end of the Pyrenees, it’s not the smallest of Europe’s mini-states (6th actually). Spectacular peaks are attractive year-round but it really comes into its own for the winter – thanks to a well above average snowfall. Winter sports centre on the resort of Soldeu at 1700m with a gondola lift taking you the main ski/snowboard area at a peak of 2600m. Hotels and shops are cosmopolitan in appeal and despite the peaks, there is a national football team. And should you find it so attractive you consider residence … it has the longest life expectancy in the world at 83.5yrs.
