Q: Comments on trip advisor etc. on Finikounda in the Mani state that it is a good sailing and wind-surfing resort. I am a beach person and wonder if this resort would be a repeat of Palaeochora in Western Crete 2 years ago where for 10 days out of the 14 it was impossible to sunbathe on the beach because of wind blowing sand all over you. I would be going end of June/early July. Does anyone know an accurate answer to this one -I cannot find mention of this anywhere - but many tourists prefer to sunbathe around pools so this problem would not arise for them?
A: Our information is that strong winds at Finikounda are only really likely in winter/spring. This is confirmed by the Windsurfing forums that suggest it is very much a beginners resort i.e. gentle winds.
