These days Portugal`s Algarve is a popular holiday destination for any holiday maker, and a pretty affordable one at that. Even with the pound struggling against the Euro, the Algarve is still a cheap place to eat out and be entertained even the Spanish head across the border for lunch!

Once you land at Faro Airport, there`s a great choice of destinations depending on what you are seeking from your holiday in the Algarve. But one thing is certain: there are plenty of beautiful spacious villas, each with its own glistening azure swimming pool, and one of which is guaranteed to suit your needs and your budget. Carvoeiro, Vilamoura, Praia da Rocha, Alvor, Lagos, Portimao... these are just some of the great resorts. And because of its fantastic year-round weather, the Algarve has become a real hot-spot for people who love to play golf, and there are over 40 golf clubs for different abilities to choose from, many of which have beautiful scenery and magnificent views of the rocky hills and impressive coastline.

If heading to the beach for a day of sunbathing and relaxing is more your thing, the Algarve`s many different beaches will not disappoint. Some of them touristy, some more private and off the beaten track, but all beautifully maintained. The southern region of Portugal has a wealth of bustling market towns, seaside resorts and quaint villages to explore, and this is best done before the heat of the day sets in. Then you can head back to your villa for a dip in the pool before lunch. Many of the larger towns such as Tavira have wonderful markets where you can buy fresh locally captured seafood and take it straight home to the barbecue at your villa. The locals love to eat roasted baby lambs and goat kids washed down with a sparkling sweet wine if you don`t mind the sound of it it`s a gastronomic experience not to be missed!

If you are a family with children you`ll find plenty to keep them occupied when they tire of the beach and pool. The Algarve has become far more kid friendly over the years and there are now theme parks and water parks to visit for a different kind of day. The Algarve has perfected its hospitality over the years and you can expect your Algarve self catering accommodation to be clean, well-serviced, and of a high standard.
