Public Holidays in Slovenia

If visiting Slovenia, remember to think about the dates of the Slovenian public or bank holidays.

As in much of central Europe, Slovenia has a mixture of religious holidays and traditional holidays celebrating freedom and independence. In Slovenia, the religious holidays tend to mean reduced public services and opening hours whilst the State holidays, such as Rudolph Maister Day, are not a work holiday and therefore have little impact on visitors. See below for the full list of national holidays in Slovenia.

The Karst Region day Tour from Ljubljana
In the southwestern part of Slovenia stretches a region called Kras (Karst). It is a land of rare beauty, secret underground waters and caves, special climate and scarce vegetation. On this day you visit the `tanjel village with a typical Karst architecture, what is followed by a tasting of dried ham "prsut" and famous red wine Teran at the typical Karst farm.

Afterwards you continue your journey to a picturesque village of Lipica, where for more than 400 years, beautiful white horses called Lipizzaners have been bred. A local guide takes the visitors on a guided tour through the stables pointing out different methods of stages of breeding and training of these noble animals. A special feature is a show-program of a star Lipizzaner studs performing the excellence of what they have learnt in their school of training.
