Slovenia has made perhaps the most striking transformation of all the former Soviet countries. The streets of the capital Ljubljana now throng with tourists who have come to admire a beautiful city with an Italian feel but at excellent prices. Below are just some of the Slovenian highlights submitted by you, our readers...
Ljubljana
A lovely place. I visited with family and the hotels and houses to rent are lovely. The three bridges are lovely, and there are great views. Go up the skylift to see lovely sights. I would say my favourite place was the market, i bought a sheep-skin rug for eight euros (old euros!) but the town is perfect too! Visit the skeleton bar for a party and a bit of fun! The paintings have eyes and there are alot of fake- and real skeletons. The drinks are brilliant too!

Petkovskovo Nabrezje is a great spot in Ljubljana to sample a few beers and watch the world go by. It's a bit cheaper than the more touristy places on the river to the south of the Three Bridges.

My wife and I found Ljubljana to be our perfect city. It's like Venice, Bruges & Amsterdam all melded into one fantastic place!

Do try and visit this market. It has a real feel of east meets west and is still very much used by locals. Some excellent local handicrafts also available.

Be warned - it's a long walk up to Castle Hill to Ljubljana Castle. There is a funicular though if you prefer. The castle has been nicley restored and does have some great views over the city of Ljubljana.

The Triple Bridge (or Tromostovje) is a famous Ljubljana landmark designed by Jože Plečnik. Lots of little market stalls all around - a great starting pint for just wandering around and enjoying the city.
