In the past, Dutch cooking has had an unfortunate reputation of being a bit bland. These days, however, global culinary influences have powered a food renaissance in the Netherlands which looks set to go from strength to strength.

Indeed, some of the traditional Dutch foods had no need of change in the first place. Buttermilk, for example is one of the staples of the Dutch diet and is not only delicious but also full of lactic acid and renowned for its health benefits. Similarly, many Dutch cheeses have an excellent flavour and the Netherlands exports hundreds of millions of tonnes of cheese such as Edam and Gouda every year.

And if you are unlucky enough to have a poor meal, then there are always plenty of famous Dutch beer brands such as Heineken, Amstel, and Oranjeboom to help wash your food down. Indeed, to get the full beer experience, why not take a brewery tour such as the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam.
