Heaven on Earth has been used to describe the Maldives-truly an untouched paradise.

When you arrive at The Maldives, you fly over the atols and can clearly see the white sand and turquoise sea. What an exciting start! I chose Club Rannalhi because, of all water bungalows with glass panels in the floor, through which to watch the fish, this was the cheapest. This was one of the highlights, especially as it was illuminated at night, and we were totally mesmerised. The excilerating speedboat transfer was welcome after the discomfort of the Monarch flight. Club Rannalhi is a tiny heaven that can be ambled round in 15 minutes. The food is varied and contrary to belief, the drinks are not expensive, with each bar having a different happy hour, enabling you to drink those delicious cocktails cheaply all evening. The staff are helpful beyond duty. The boy who attended to our water bungalow, cleaned the light underneath and scrubbed the deck steps that led down to the sea and even left bottles of sparkling wine in an ice bucket for us on our return from a busy afternoon beachcombing! He even took our underwater camera on his day off and brought back amazing photos from beyond the reef. We walked alongside the gentle giant of a 5ft ray in the shallows and fed the most colourful of fish with bread from our sundeck. I cant recommend this destination enough. As we stood on the jetty, waiting for our speedboat back to Male, the entire staff came out to shake our hands, including the Manager. They thanked us for visiting their island and hoped we would return. I hope we do too.
