Negotiating the Peripherique in Paris is the stuff of motoring legend, but in general, driving in France can be an absolute pleasure.
Many of the motorways charge tolls and travelling from the north to the south of France, for example, will cost between 50 and 100 Euros in autoroute tolls. However, if you are not pressed for time and want to save some money, many of the National roads (Routes Nationales) are relatively quick whilst offering you much more interesting views of France.
France also boats the world's tallest road bridge... the Milau Viaduct designed by Englishman Norman Foster... which is definitely worth a visit if the weather is good.
