Highlights of Czech Republic |
Whether you are sampling a Budvar beer in Prague's Wenceslas Square or exploring
the Czech countryside, the Czech Republic is fast becoming one of the must see destinations of central Europe.
Below are just some of the Czech highlights submitted by you, our readers...
"Prague is a breathtaking city of contrasts, torn between the architectural beauty of the old town and the "grey" Eastern Block style suburbs. It is a fascinating city, with unusual cultural quirks, such as puppetry and puppet opera, and shops selling beautiful crystal chandeliers. The food varies, but the open air restaurants around Wenceslas Square and the Clock provide great value food, and fabulously reasonable cocktails. I recommend that everyone visiting Prague samples the local beer (Budweiser), as even though I hate beer, this stuff tastes out of this world! All in all, a highly recommended destination, but beware of pickpockets!"
Alex Kershaw
"Prague is the ultimate weekend break! From its famous beer and stag nights, to the historical and beautiful pebbled streets. Has something for everyone!!"
Anastasia Pelentrides
"Prague has such a beautiful old town; i enjoyed it so much. I also recommend you see Krakow in Poland - equally amazing."
Anna
"Visit Prague during the Christmas Markets (December) when the city is filled with holiday cheer!"
Brian H
"I visited Prague with my family last christmas. We went to see a carol service at the church, it was a beautiful setting and summed up the magic of Prague at christmas. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a interesting if cold city christmas break."
Elin Joseph
"Tyn Church is in a beautiful historical part of Prague, important to see if you have got the time. Prague is more than a cheap beer!"
Martina Pichova
"Prague is one of the best places I have visited. Although in February it was unbelievably cold! The old town was vibrant and grand simply beautiful. The old town is normally chocked full of stag dos... be warned if you are there on the weekend!"

Karlstejn Castle Half Day Trip from PragueDiscover the impressive Bohemian Gothic Karlstejn Castle on a guided coach half day coach tour from Prague. Built in the 14th century by Charles IV, the Czech King and Roman Emperor, the castle was believed to hold the treasure of the Holy Roman Empire including the imperial coronation jewels. You'll get up close, viewing the foundation stone of Karlstejn, laid in 1348. Explore the main building works which lasted until 1356, the year of Charles' coronation as emperor. You'll discover just how much care Charles IV devoted to the rich interior decoration of the castle, until the time of his death in 1378. The castle was then modified in the Renaissance style and re-built in the purism style between the 19th and 20th century. In winter, if the Karlstejn Castle is closed, an alternative visit to the Cesky Sternberk Castle is arranged. Cesky Sternbeck is an imposing castle on a romantic rise above the river Sazava. This Castle features rich stucco decorations and unique collections of weapons. Starting from $57.27 per person |
