Venice Travel Guide

Q: Which are the best places to travel in Europe?
A: Big continent, big question... but given Mount Vesuvius has been active recently, we are going to put Sicily as our number one European destination this month.

Carleen Greaves says:
"Venice is a wonderful labyrinth of narrow streets and secret passage ways. Signs on the corners of the building guide you on a wonderful adventure discovering cafes and wonderful little shops. Take time to stop and purchase some beautiful Murano glass jewellery and colourful shaped marzipan. Don't make make the mistake of waiting and thinking you will buy it at your next destination. You won't find it! "

Ginny Purcell says:
"This is a wonderful place to visit, not only is there the stunning St Marcs Cathederal and the Rialto bridge, but the small windy lanes of shops and individual town squares are a beautiful sight. Definitely worth visiting to get away from the busy lunchtime rush; wind your way into the real heart of Venice where its quiet and honest. It is also worth hopping on a bus-boat or water-taxi to visit many other of the surrounding islands such as the Lido. A really beautiful and magnificent place, truely incredible."

helen haynes says:
"such a romantic city...I got engaged there last year....take the water bus from St Marks to the Railway station then stroll back through the streets...there's so much to see but make time for the Rialto Bridge...this is one of the "must sees" in Venice."

becky Gowda says:
"We arrived in Venice at 4.30am. But wow wow and wow again, travelling long the canal just before day break was something else, another time and world! The architecture stunningly lit, the mist and the chill of the night, mesmerising..... All i can say is i am glad our flight arrived late or we would never have experienced this feast for the eyes!!"

Steve Cowell says:
"The shop-lined bridge can get terribly congested. For a great view of the bridge, why not drop down to the Grand Canal level - I enjoyed a very reasonably-priced pizza and a glass of wine at a pizzeria by the Grand Canal, which has the Rialto Bridge as its backdrop."

Carolynn Woodland says:
"Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic (as John Barrowman would say). The entire city is a joy but the views from the bridge are incredible."

Totir Alexandru says:
"Because the bridge is a big attraction, prices at these shops are higher, so stay away if you don't want to feel sad when you see the same item at a lower price in some other shop."

Graham Sadler says:
"The bridge is must while in Venice but its worth making the effort of getting up early before the crowds to see it at its best. "
