Maui, HI Travel Guide

Q: If you are in your 40s and want to take off and travel, what advice would be essential.
A: Sounds exciting! Lots to think about but as a start: a) Hunt around for a decent long term travel insurance policy; b) Do a budget... you will inevitably spend more than you think and this needs to fit with whatver income you are going to have; c) Make some sort of plan about what things you want to see and do. Bon Voyage!

Wes Jamison says:
"My wife and I spent 14 nights here from late January 2010 to early February. We booked here because we were looking for economy and green space, mostly because we were going to spend more time out of a hotel than in one. The grounds are gorgeous and should be in your sights for a wedding space. The pool and luau area is Beautiful! The first night the room we had was showing as being quite "tired" and needed a bit of freshening for sure. The term "rustic" was used by others and certainly this was the case. Make no mistake, this is Hawaii and many of the older hotels etc. have endured the warm damp climate and so it goes. After making the management aware the room we had was sub-par even for an older hotel, the manager contacted us to see if they could remedy this. They did and to our satisfaction. We were given a choice of oceanfront or poolside. The rooms in other areas of the hotel have been upgraded over the years yet still remain "economy". Our oceanview room was very nice and had an unobstructed view of Ma'alaea Bay and the Island of Lanai, breaching whales and kite surfers. I have been through other hotels like the Marriott in Maui and although very posh, I found it crowded and impersonal. The Maui Lu was very friendly and they made our stay great. We probably had one of the best locations for the buck, great value. "

"Plush and exotic, the pool looks like an oasis amonst the palm trees "
