Q: why are travellers cheques not accepted by banks in Calpe, Spain?
A: Unfortunately this is becoming more and more common in Spain. It seems the banks & exchange bureaux do not like the admin and the increasing risk of forgery.

Lois R says:
"Itís one of the best - Parque del Retiro in Madrid. Itís an oasis in a busy, bustling city. What a day out, for all the family if they all appreciate lakes with water activities, superb gardens where youíll find music along the walkways and under the trees, while artists show their work, others amaze with miming acts and colourful, fun juggling. Itís all go here or you can sit a while in an outdoor cafť or perhaps find a quiet spot and just rest and relax. Dominant at one side of the artificial lake is the massive, stunning Alfonso XII Monument, erected by the mother of King Alfonso in 1922, memorable in this Royal Park constructed to complement the Real Sitio del Beun Retiro Palace in 1632, by King Phillip IV, as a family retreat. I was there on a bright, sunny day and had plenty of time to walk all through this park, near the centre of Madrid and close to the well-known Prada Musuem. The main entrance is near the Alcala Gate, another tourist attraction. Start at Lake Estanque del Retiro, walk around the Alfonso monument and then on to the other two main attractions here: the Palacios de Cristal a copy of Londonís Crystal Palace and the Palacio de Velazques - both used for exhibitions now. I went further down to the Roselada - the Rose Garden and remember the Fountain of the Falling Angel - this corner of the park was superb and I took many photos of this creative garden and all its glory. Fountains and statues aplenty. This is a must when in Madrid because it is truly interesting for people of all ages and photographers will just adore it. It is really large and will take some time but there is so much to see and do you will be pleased you included it on your visit to Madrid, Spain."
