Brighton Travel Guide

Q: How many miles are travelled by tourists on foot every year?
A: Goodness knows. But here is our go at a guess: average of 1 million people on holiday on any given day, each walking an average of 3 miles per day... equals well over 1,000,000,000 miles per year.

Lois Ronberg says:
"How quintessentially English - the deckchair at the beach, or in this case on Brighton Pier. Blue and white stripes, green and white or white and red stripes? Does it really matter? On hot, sunny days many people ‘’pay the money, and sit in the sun,’‘ along the length of this world-known British pier, reaching out into the ocean. From your sunny, reclining position you are king or queen of all you survey - and there is plenty to see on Brighton Pier. Fortune telling, candyfloss, games galore where the big prize is the biggest teddybear, crocodile, dinosaur etc. The games arcades are huge, noisy and hopefuls try it all again and again, ‘’the next time will be a winner’‘ The bars, outdoor cafes, restaurants, food-stalls all keep the fun-time activities going along nicely as you sit in your deckchair - boy life doesn’t get much better than this at the British seaside. I have a video clip of my New Zealand partner trying to put up a Brighton Pier deckchair, what a laugh. He put a handkerchief tied in all four corners on his head and then tried again, turns out he had it upside down! Make sure you get it right so your friends won’t always think of deckchairs on Brighton Pier as the time you split your sides laughing. Now you’ve had your allotted time, get off the deckchair and head for the end of the pier, merry-go-rounds aplenty, family all sorts of fun attractions beckon. If it all tires you out - just hire another deckchair and sit a while and watch waves rush into the shore or just soak up the sun. Whatever you do, as you leave the pier be sure to buy some Brighton Rock - tradition dictates you take some home."
