Birmingham Travel Guide

Q: What are the best books for budget travel advice?
A: Rough Guide and Lonely Planet are always reliable. Amazon normally have good prices on these, especially if you dont mind second hand books.

Lois Ronberg says:
"In the heart of Birmingham’s shopping area you are close to everything you would want in a modern retail area, with the added bonus of a busy, large train station and the buses which weave their way through to take you out into the region. My lasting memory is of the Bull Ring because it was so unusual in shape and form. It looks like a gigantic chrysalis of silver baubles and it’s set amid some really old, historic buildings so you really cannot miss it when you are shopping in Birmingham's main retail area. The pedestrianised ‘’streets’‘ are very wide and you can shop at all the large chain shops or find smaller botique like specialists. Birmingham was my main shopping area for a month once and I went into town some days on the bus and each time I concentrated on a different part of the shopping extravaganza: large stores, little arcades, a covered market which looked quite old as well as the bank. Site seeing is another way to see Birmingham and I am sure you would find an information centre somewhere but as I was not there for pleasure or on holiday my focus was not on this aspect of Birmingham’s city centre. Another thing I noticed on my strolling around was the people come from all walks of life so there is a diverse culture in the shops, activities - especially in the colourful, bright and breezy informal band I found busking near where this 360 traveguide photo is taken. I don’t know the old Birmingham city centre but the new one is really bright, busy and a good place to be when in this interesting town."

"I agree with Totir. Birmingham has been criticised in the past but these days it's a lively city with plenty of new things to see and do."

Totir Alexandru says:
"Birmingham is a beautiful city. The weather is a little to cold, but overall it's ok."
