Lois Ronberg says:
"I was overwhelmed by the sense of history when I stood in Tianamen Square, in China’s Beijing. This the place where I first experienced armed guards, with massive guns, in the infancy of my travels around the world. I stood there in this place of gloriously presented Chinese buildings and the thoughts of those who had walked and died there was intense. Tianamen Square has seen a long and varied history with the 1989 massacre being part of the current day story which you won’t find any mention of in today’s square. It is in the centre of Beijing, is a vast open space and is used for a variety of important events. I only stood in one small spot of the over 400,000 sq metres of the “Gate of Heavenly Peace”, but you can visit the Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, the Monument to the People's Hero and the rather impressive Tower building which was first built in 1417 – in the Ming Dynasty. While in Tianamen Square you can pop in to the new Chinese National Museum to find out about this city's history through thousands of years. For sure you will be sharing the square experience with thousands of others as locals and visitors enjoy the open spaces. I remember many red flags, and I think I recall there was not much seating so be prepared to stand or walk a while. We called there on our way to the Summer Palace which is a huge park with several palaces set around a massive lake with a large, ornate bridge to islands in the water... well worth a visit. As we walked around here we were laughed and giggled about as the little school children looked upon white people - obviously a bit of a novelty for them."

"Its a nice place. Nowadays many campaigns have been organised to control the pollution and population here. The view given here is a good one. I love the dragon dance which i saw here in beijing"
J Tyler says:
"Beijing is out of this world... unfortuntaely when I was there, so was the pollution. They could do with starting their own Act on CO2 campaign!"
